Our Vision

Together We Rise Richmond envisions a thriving Richmond where all people, especially those most affected and often unheard, live free from gender-based violence. We strive for a future where healing replaces harm, accountability replaces silence, earned redemption replaces punishment, and every individual’s dignity is upheld across every neighborhood, institution, and generation. Our vision is a Richmond transformed; where safety is a shared responsibility, justice is flexible and survivor-defined, and equity is not an aspiration but a daily practice. We aim to construct accessible and trauma-informed systems that are just, inclusive, and rooted in community wellness.

Mission Statement

We are a coalition of residents, survivors, service providers, and decision-makers united by the belief that everyone deserves to live free from harm. Grounded in equity, healing, and accountability, we work to dismantle systemic violence by reaching those most often unheard, transforming institutions, and fostering collective safety. Our mission is to put transformative policies into practice, centering lived experience, and honoring cultural knowledge, (speak to PWCH). Together, we seek to create a Richmond where prevention is shared, compassion is practiced, and every voice matters.

Our History

The work to end gender-based violence (GBV) in Richmond began with a simple but powerful vision: a community where everyone can live free from harm. In March 2024, community leaders, service providers, and residents came together to form the first Richmond Task Force to End GBV. Guided by listening sessions with survivors and community members, the Task Force was launched with support from five partner organizations as well as The Latina Center, the Family Justice Center, along with graduate students and interns from UC Berkeley and Health Career Connections. With additional guidance from Esperanza United, the Task Force set out to understand the problem and design solutions rooted in survivor voices and community needs.
